Microsoft says 79% of Russians face Internet risks in 2019

MOSCOW, Feb 11 (PRIME) -- Almost 80% of Russian users encountered Internet risks in 2019 in comparison to the global average of 70%, Microsoft said in an annual research of civility and personal safety, seen by PRIME on Tuesday.

Microsoft draw the Digital Civility Index on the basis of a study, which engaged 12,520 people from 25 countries. A focus group in Russia counted 500 adults and teenagers.

The Russia Digital Civility Index increased by 5 points to 79% to make it 22nd in the index.

The most common intrusive risks were hoaxes, scams, and fraud, as well as unwanted contacts. The most common behavioral risks were mean treatment, online harassment, and trolling.

The study showed that 54% of the respondents believe technology and social media companies will create tools and policies that will encourage respectful and civil behavior.
